I’m Andrew Wallace.
From the age of five, I participated in youth baseball in Boca Raton, Florida. I remember being so excited to put on my uniform and join my teammates for games every week. On top of being great fun for a kid at that age, the experience was invaluable in the personal development it afforded me.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but it wasn’t like that for all the kids. Some kids were just as excited to play the game as I was, but without adequate financial resources, they didn’t have the opportunity to pull on a nice new uniform, toss a good glove in their bag, and be properly equipped as they took the field for the big game.
Before long, I heard the story of Mariano Rivera. Mariano played 19 seasons for the Yankees and is widely considered one of the best closing pitchers of all time. But, when he was a child back in Panama, his family could not afford a real baseball glove, so he had to make his glove out of cardboard because that’s all he had. I was moved by his experience, determination and success, and it inspired me to want to help communities like Mariano’s in Panama to provide uniforms and equipment for kids to have the best experience playing youth baseball.
My mother is also from Panama, and Mariano’s story stuck with me for some time. In 2020, I founded Baseball Boosters International to support kids in Panama and throughout Central America who want to play the game and would benefit from our support. In our first year of operations, we’ve fully funded uniforms and equipment for five youth baseball teams in a small town league just outside of Panama City.
I’m incredibly grateful to our existing donors and immensely proud of the work we’ve done so far. I look forward to what we’ll accomplish together over the next year and in the future.
What do we do?
Simply put, we collect donations to fund uniforms and equipment for youth baseball programs throughout Central America. As a young organization, our initial focus is on Panama, but we plan to expand to neighboring countries as quickly as possible.
We are different than other charitable organizations in that we have zero overhead costs. We operate entirely online, powered by the sheer selflessness of our volunteers, so 100% of every donation goes directly to the kids we support.
Our vision is that our program will help these kids gain confidence, build character, and achieve life-long skills by making baseball more accessible and enjoyable for them. This will attract more children to these youth baseball programs, where they will develop invaluable personal strengths and become tomorrow’s community leaders.
